 "description": "This data was created as a result of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency\u2019s (MPCA) biological stressor identification process (SID).\n\nExcess suspended solids causes harm to aquatic life through direct, physical effects on biota (i.e., abrasion of gills, suppression of photosynthesis, avoidance behaviors); and also indirect effects (i.e., loss of visibility for feeding, increase in sediment oxygen demand). Elevated TSS concentrations can also reduce the penetration of sunlight and can thwart photosynthetic activity and limit primary production.  The water quality standards for TSS vary by region (See Aquatic Life Water Quality Standard Technical Support Document for Total Suspended Solids).",
